Keep the Lights on at the Historic BAL Theatre
Your gift preserves an 80-year-old San Leandro landmark — and the community it serves.
Since 1946, the Historic BAL Theatre has been the heart of San Leandro’s cultural life. Generations have walked under our marquee for first dates, family movie nights, comedy shows, and concerts. Today, that same Art Deco theatre is still here — and it’s still ours, thanks to people like you.
The BAL is operated by San Leandro Curtain Call Performing Arts, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Ticket sales cover only a portion of what it takes to keep the lights on, the marquee glowing, and the doors open to youth, families, and artists. Your donation closes the gap.
Where Your Gift Goes
Every dollar goes directly into operating, restoring, and programming the theatre. Here’s what your gift makes possible:
- $25 helps keep the Historic BAL Theatre doors open for another night of music, film, and community
- $50 provides event supplies, materials for an evening
- $100 helps power the stage lights for a full evening performance
- $250 sponsors local participation in theatre, music, or technical production training
- $500 funds Art Deco preservation and restoration work
- $1,000 supports new programming, and community outreach
- $5,000+ helps us tackle major restoration projects, accessibility upgrades, and long-term theatre upkeep

Operating an 80-year-old historic theatre takes constant work. Restoration, sound and lighting upgrades, accessibility improvements, youth scholarships, free community events — none of it happens without donors. Ticket revenue is only part of the story.
